The Camino routes in Croatia are based on medieval pilgrimage paths that once connected Croatia with the renowned Spanish sanctuary of Santiago de Compostela. These routes not only trace the historical footsteps of ancient pilgrims but also enrich the cultural and tourism offerings of the destinations they pass through. Among them, despite being relatively new, the Camino Korčula holds a special place. Established in 2023, this unique route has ambitious plans for expansion, aiming to provide visitors with an even richer experience.
The current Camino Korčula route is designed as a circular trail spanning 160 kilometres, starting and ending in the town of Korčula, in front of St. Mark’s Cathedral, one of the island’s most significant sacred monuments. Along its path, the route passes through all the settlements on the island, covering its central, southern, and northern regions. Special attention has been given to including key cultural, historical, and natural heritage sites, with an emphasis on sacred landmarks that testify to the island’s long and rich history.
This route primarily follows existing walking trails and island roads, allowing pilgrims and active tourism enthusiasts to explore Korčula through its authentic landscapes. The route’s planning also highlights the gastronomic aspect of the journey—pilgrims have the opportunity to taste local products at wine and olive oil tasting venues and meet artisans producing traditional delicacies that reflect the distinctiveness of Korčula’s cuisine.
Thanks to its mild Mediterranean climate, the island of Korčula offers ideal conditions for outdoor activities year-round, making Camino Korčula an attractive destination regardless of the season. With a well-developed accommodation infrastructure, high-quality food and wine offerings, and rich cultural and historical heritage, Camino Korčula is an unmissable destination for pilgrims, hikers, and those seeking authentic island experiences.
The success of Camino routes across Europe has shown that they gradually evolve into year-round destinations, attracting not only the faithful but also lovers of nature, history, and culture. With this in mind, Camino Korčula is not just a walking trail—it is a holistic experience that blends spirituality, adventure, and gastronomy into a unique island story.

To further enrich the Camino Korčula experience, two specialised Camino projects have been introduced, focusing on sacred music and fine wines.
This project is conceived as a unique fusion of pilgrimage tradition and musical artistry, aimed at preserving and promoting the sacred musical heritage of Korčula. Taking place in the second half of June, it features concerts held in parish churches across different island towns. This event offers visitors an opportunity to experience an authentic spiritual atmosphere through the sounds of forgotten chants and liturgical compositions that have been an integral part of the island’s cultural tradition for centuries.
For lovers of oenology and gastronomy, the Wine Camino has been created—a project that connects the Camino route with Korčula’s most renowned wineries. This aspect of the Camino experience allows visitors to explore the island’s rich wine scene, taste indigenous grape varieties such as Grk and Pošip, and learn about local viticultural traditions. Vineyard and winery visits are complemented by guided tastings and winemakers’ stories, making this route a perfect choice for those who wish to combine an active holiday with top-tier wine and gastronomy experiences.
Camino Korčula is not just another walking trail—it is a project that revitalises the island’s heritage, strengthens the local community, and paves the way for sustainable tourism. By integrating cultural, natural, and gastronomic elements, this route is evolving into a pilgrimage destination and a symbol of the island’s identity, promoting Korčula as a meeting point between tradition and modern travel trends.
Whether you are passionate about history, nature, music, or fine wines, Camino Korčula offers a unique opportunity to experience the island in a completely new way – through the footsteps of pilgrims, the sounds of sacred music, and the flavours of the finest island delicacies.
Walk the Camino Korčula and discover the soul of one of the Adriatic’s most beautiful islands.
